Founded in 2009, Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health was established to assist with acquiring funding for patients and programs at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores).
Over the last ten years our journey has become so much more than just raising funds. As a team, we have worked on numerous programs and events with our hospital staff, members of our community, and most importantly, our patients who have courageously shared their stories to bring awareness to, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
"I felt sad, alone, and completely worthless but I couldn’t put a name to it.”
- Jordan Beenen, husband, father, person living with bi-polar disorder, Ontario Shores patient, and Ambassador of Hope
We care about mental health because it affects us all. It is complex, misunderstood and, although the conversation is getting better, still faces stigma. There are many other stories like Jordan’s. Stories of those
living with a mental illness so severe it has affected their daily life. We encourage you to explore some of these inspirational people at www.GiveForTomorrow.ca.
Recovery is our hospital’s ultimate goal no matter who that patient may be, or where they are. The funds we raise go towards; innovative programs and services, such as Adolescent Literacy and Digital Therapy; patient needs, from basic toiletries to assisted living; Stigma reduction and education such as Talking About Mental Illness (TAMI) and our annual Mental Health Conference, and; Numerous research initiatives that focus on Dementia and Alzheimer’s, recovery oriented practices, technology, and eating disorders, to
name a few.
Strengthened by the backdrop of our hospital’s 100 year history, our Foundation will continue to explore and promote bold ideas that will grow funding and support for our patients, both now, and into the future.
