Mini Bio Patrick Yeung is a Toronto based functional potter working with stoneware clay, fired to cone 10 in reduction. After graduating from the ceramic program at the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in 2006, he continued his studies with a 2 year apprenticeship with Dundas potter Scott Barnim. He strongly believes that there is still a place for handmade functional potter in the over saturated, mass produced North American society. Handmade tableware has a profound aesthetic impact on the routines and rhythms of our daily lives, with the potential to make our ordinary routines extraordinary. Patrick?s focus is on designing and creating unique, finely crafted tableware. He pays close attention to how the object feels in the hand ? its shape, weight and texture ? in order to create an intimate bond between the object and the person holding it. The pots and tableware that he makes are useful in their true environments, yet unique in their strong lines and emphasis on form. Patrick?s work reflects his interests in his Cantonese heritage, the routines of cuisine and dining traditions, and contemporary design. He is able to meld all these influences to create work that is useful, pleasing, and memorable.
