Mini Bio Marcel Guldemond grew up in Hamilton, and spent much of of his 20s cursing and swearing while planting trees in the clearcuts of northern Ontario. Those experiences and landscapes have never really been expunged from his brain or his artistic intentions, and the lakes, trees and skies of northern Ontario remain embedded in his psyche. During that decade, he bounced from one institution to another, including the University of Waterloo’s Architecture program, before finally receiving a degree in Computer Science from Dalhousie University. He also published several comic books and graphic novels and won a Xeric Grant for the graphic novel ‘Under a Slowly Spinning Sun’. He then moved to Ottawa and sometime around 2004 his artistic focus shifted from comics back to painting. He has produced several hundred small-scale paintings, but it’s the new full-sized paintings that got him so excited that he talked really fast and spilled his drink.
