Currently pursuing her MFA at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, ceramic artist Alwyn O’Brien (Salt Spring Island, BC) was the first recipient of the One of a Kind Show/Gardiner Museum Emerging Artist Award in 2007. Mini Bio What started as a rainy weekend project making a sock monkey has exploded into a comical craft line that appeals to all ages. These monkeys seem to have a particular appeal to teenage boys... the hardest people to buy for! Sock monkeys are a century old. When fabric was a luxury during the depression, one resourceful grandmother made a monkey out of an old pair of Grandpa's work socks. It charmed both boys & girls and lasted for many many years. We are adding some new items to our line this show, including buttons, magnets, tiny little pets and postcards. We have also started offering sock monkey birthday parties. See you at the show!
