Currently pursuing her MFA at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, ceramic artist Alwyn O’Brien (Salt Spring Island, BC) was the first recipient of the One of a Kind Show/Gardiner Museum Emerging Artist Award in 2007. Mini Bio 2006 – present Created my company ‘Tresnormale’. Screen-printed T-shirts and other apparel, sold in several boutiques in Montréal and on my website. Focus: Aspects of Montréal, its quirkiness. Also philosophical and literary subjects. All art produced using eco-friendly products (like water-based ink). Most production equipment self-made (printing machine etc.) 2005 Moved from Berlin to Montréal. 2003 – 2005 Pursued a Ph.D in Philosophy in Berlin. Mastered the techniques of screen printing. Sold T-shirts and hand printed postcards in several stores in Berlin. Designed and coded websites. 2003 Obtained Master’s degree in Philosophy and Sociology. 2000 – 2003 Mural paintings in Germany and Holland. Several exhibitions of drawings, paintings and airbrush works. 1998 – 2000 Custom – works in drawing and painting (mostly portraits).
