Mini Bio I have been visiting auction houses, yard sales, surplus dealers and combing the streets for urban flotsam for about fifteen years, slowly building up a large 'palette' of industrial fittings and generally odd 'high tech junk'. I look for circular shapes, rusty hardware, and highly crafted components and often the pieces I come across dictate the direction of the sculpture. I get to be an artist, antique dealer, and pack rat all in the same occupation. I first began creating using 'metal oddments' around 1990 after several visits to Active Surplus in Toronto and would fall into the self taught category of artists. I find it mentally soothing to be creating using bits of things around me. Like a bird building a nest, it feels somewhat instinctual. Had I set out on this course? No, but my grandfather was an accomplished backyard garage 'inventor'perhaps it's in the genes.
