Celebrate Good Times, C'mon!

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm from Japan. As long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by Japanese textiles such as kimono. I love the patterns and colors, they really inspire me to create! Since having children, my creations are usually geared towards babies and children. It is such a pleasure to make things for kids, I love the idea that my children can pass these creations on to their children.

What are the inspirations behind the piece featured at the One of a Kind Online Shop?
The excitement when a baby take his or her first step! I put my heart into each stitch and I hope that with every pair of shoes, they become a part of the memory for both the baby and the parents. Since kimono fabric does not fade, I also want this memory to remain vivid, and stay with them forever!

My piece would make the perfect gift to celebrate...
Baby showers!

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far? How did you celebrate this?
When I was selling my art work on the streets of New York City, a buyer from Henry Bendel (a department store on 5th Avenue) stopped in front of me, and purchased all of my art work! That year, I had my first show at Henry Bendel. I don't remember how I celebrated, but this event has really changed my life. That moment was really my American dream!

Any plans/celebrations for the Spring/Summer season?
I am moving to down town Toronto in this summer, which is exciting but tiring.
